Product Description: compact, folding, on-the-ear design * padded, closed earcups and adjustable headband * NoiseGard noise-cancellation technology * Up to -15 to -25 dB attenuation of ambient noise for frequencies below 1,000 Hz * frequency response 10-21,000 Hz *Amazon.com Product Description: Portable audio takes on fresh life with quality headphones, and Sennheiser's folding, lightweight, closed-ear PXC 250 is designed to keep outside noises out and headphone sound in--perfect for use in busses and libraries alike.
Increase the peace! The PXC 250 features a noise reduction unit
that cancels out background noise.

When engaged, NoiseGard active noise reduction drops steady-state low-frequency noise (from about 500 Hz and below) by 15 dB--which the human ear perceives as more than halving the noise--thus enhancing the clarity of your music. The noise reduction circuit requires 2 AAA batteries (not included), but the headphones work fine without the circuit engaged.

Sennheiser's fold and flip design lets you turn the ear pieces 90 degrees and fold the headphones closed. Their ported design lets them move more air for greater bass response.

Customer Reviews:

  • Good for plane travel, but be aware of fit : I bought these to replace my Bose Quiet Comfort 2 headset on long flights. The Bose set is superb but bulky. Sennheiser's noise reduction is not quite as good, and the sound reproduction was OK for podcasts
and airplane movies & music, but the bass is not strong enough for serious music listening. Thus, four stars, not five. The headphones are not quite so isolating as the Bose headphones -- they shut out background engine noise but you can still somewhat muffled voices around you. The design is quite good for travel - the headset folds up neatly and goes into a soft nylon pouch. You have to be reasonably gentle and read the instructions for folding it just once. In the wires leading from the headset to the plug, there's a four inch long plastic pod for the circuitry and the batteries. It didn't get in the way, and there's a clip on it so you can stick in in a pocket or clip it to clothing.

But: the headset is spring loaded to keep the earpieces firmly on your ear and therby give you good noise cancelling. When I wore the headset, I got a headache from the pressure after maybe two hours of the four hour flight. The Bose set is more comfortable for long hours of use despite the size, although even they bother me a bit after four or five hours. You may not experience the same problem, but be sure to keep all the packaging just in case, so you can return them if they hurt. If the pressure doesn't bother you, this will be a good headset -- good but not superb -- for a very reasonable price.
  • Well worth the moderate price: I purchased this just before a recent business trip from DFW to SFO and back. I was VERY pleased with the level of noise reduction, and the comfort of the headphones. True, they don't block out all the noise, but I'd say (subjectively) it sounded like it cut the ambient aircraft engine noise down by about half. I never used to think the noise was all that much on an airliner, but once I turned the noise canceling switch on, I was amazed at what I had been putting up with. The only negative is the tendency for the two wires to get amazingly tangled, but I soon learned to wrap the wires around the cylindrical unit before stowing it and the folding headset away in the storage case. There are cheaper units out there, but I read several reviews complaining about the headset breaking after a few uses. And there are much more expensive units out there that the reviews indicate don't perform a whole lot better. For the price point of these, I am very pleased with the quality and function.
  • good quality: My husband loves the sound quality and is very pleased with the performance of this set, however, they ARE very uncomfortable. So tight even on my small head, can't wear too long. We hope they will stretch out but after 5 months havent yet. Really happy however with the sound these put out, noise canceling works very very good and even if he has them set to a high volume I cant hear a thing which is great.
  • Worked fine till they Broke !: I was pleased with these headphones until last week. On a flight home, the left ear piece developed an extremely loud, high pitched squeal which has rendered this $100 purchase unusable. I was disappointed as I would expect a bit more mileage out of a product this expensive. A check of the Sennheiser website shows there are no longer warranteed so I am out of luck.
  • Compact and sound great: I have not had the luxury of some customers in being able to compare these headphones to other brands notably Bose but from the moment I turned on the noise cancelling unit and the sounds of the noisy bus all but disappeared I knew they could do what I bought them for.

    THE GOOD: Compact
Lightweight and comfortable after extended periods of use
Beautiful midrange and treble.Bass is tight but not overdone.
Extra plugs included for airline and amplifier use.

NOT SO GOOD: The noise cancelling unit could be a nuisance especially if you don't have pockets or a place to clip it.This was not a problem for me and I think a fair tradeoff for the actual headphones being so small and foldable.
The headphones don't sound very good with the unit switched off so make sure you have backup batteries on longer trips.

I am very happy with these headphones and they are an absolute bargain.
