Product Description: The story of a plucky red-haired orphan girl who dreams of a life outside her dingy orphanage.
Genre: Feature Film Family
Rating: PG
Release Date: 2-AUG-2005
Media Type: DVDAmazon.com: Charmless and dull, this adaptation of the Broadway hit stars Aileen Quinn as the depression-era moppet, Albert Finney as Daddy Warbucks, Carol Burnett as the cruel headmistress at an orphanage, and Tim Curry as a villain. The film never gets its legs, and there is no sense of setting; it's almost as if the whole thing is happening in a void. John Huston nominally directed--no doubt to make money between his smaller, cheaper masterpieces--but one would have thought he would invest something of himself in here. --Tom Keogh

Customer Reviews:

  • Not any better this time: I was so dissapointed in this film when it was released, as were many fans of the stage show. The casting was perfect but the re-written plot and overdone direction helped to prove that musicals could not be made well anymore, thank god now for Chicago and Sweeney Todd! The Disney TV version was so much betterm it really captured the feel of the original stage play.
  • I love Annie: A FILM THAT MAKES YOU SMILE, CRY AND CHEER. STORY DRIVEN MUSIC AND A BOOK THAT STANDS ON ITS OWN MERIT. A COMBO OF OUTSTANDING TALENT AND MUSIC MAKES FOR A DELIGHTFUL VIEWING. DON'T MISS IT!!!!!
  • Bath tub gin: She is an orphine in the 20s, that is a double whammy. The richest man in town adoptes her.
  • Great classic: My grandaughters love this movie ages 2 & 4. They sing and dance to it. Great buy.
  • Australian release of ANNIE is Widescreen: In response to everyone who wants a widescreen copy:
The Australian, region 4 version is widescreen 2.35:1 16:9 Enhanced
