Customer Reviews:
- disappointed: I have purchased two of these over the past 8 months. The first one worked great for about 6 months. All of a sudden, it decided it no longer wanted to turn on. I had liked it up to that point. I did get it to turn on and never turned it off. Well, that was short lived.
I made the decision to purchase another one. As I said, I liked it. But after just one week, the same problem started. So I retutned it and got the Inno. Wow, do I love it!
- Very good. A few little UI issues, and one missing piece of functionality...: I am very pleased with this receiver, which is my intro to XM. I get incredible reception in my car, and am looking forward to grabbing a home kit to use it at home.
The controls are intuitive, with presets being easy to navigate and multiple display modes (I could have used less, I hate getting thru the stock ticker and sports one to get back to display #1. should be able to turn these off in settings). The multiple choices for color display is nice plus, as sometimes you feel red, and sometimes you feel purple.
The only thing I really wish this receiver had is the ability to record. My friend turned me onto XM, and her receiver has this. I assumed this was a standard thing, but this receiver cannot record, which is a bummer, especially when I get it set up at home. I really would like to catch Dylan's show (brilliant, BTW) on my time schedule.
Overall, tho, this is a great little radio that serves well, especially for the price. Some clunky user interface is the only reason it doesn't get 5 stars. - A Downgrade in One Area: I'd give the XT a 5 if it weren't for the deletion of one feature the Roady 2 had, and that's the FM Frequency option available with the Roady 2 Home Kit but alas is NOT available on the XT Home Kit. I bought two of the Home Kits and now I can't use them because I use portable radios at work which can't be hooked up with the rca plug which is the ONLY way to listen to it with the home setup! Put the XT in your car-cradle and magically the Frequency option appears, but most times you won't need it because you can hook up the cassete-adapter which is superior sound anyway! The best part about the Roady XT is the way it mounts to the cradle without having to unplug and plug into ports continually which wears them out. But they dropped the ball by deleting the XM to FM frequency feature when you're not in your car.
- Small & Powerful!: This is my first Satelite Radio reciever and so far, I can't complain. The reciever is a very nice size (a little smaller than a deck of cards) and is loaded with features for the price. The menu is easy to navigate and the features are easy to access and don't leave you feeling like you wish you had a degree in astro-physics.
My only complaint after owning this for about a month is the *very* low power of the FM Transmitter. I have friends with other brands of recievers that have no problem using them in situations where you must recieve the signal on your FM radio. If you are buying this unit for that application I would pause and do more comparisons with other units first.
In summary, all in all this is a great little radio and I would buy it again if I had to do it all over. Have fun! - Nice improvement over earlier versions of the Roady: The Roady XT is the third iteration of the "Roady" series, and it's the best yet. The main difference is a redesigned control layout (improved in my opinion) and the inclusion of dock connector on the bottom of the radio, simiar to that on the SkyFi and SkyFi2. This makes for neater docking solutions, as it avoids the need for the bulky cables connecting to the left side of the radio on the earlier Roady models.
