Product Description: The DVP-NS57P/S DVD player features Precision Cinema Progressive technology, providing sharper images for a better viewing experience. Unlike other DVD players that detect image changes at the Scan line level-Sony's Precision Cinema Progressive (PCP) system detects them at the Pixel level. This results in images closer to the original source data, because separate, optimized algorithms are used to handle the differing Pixel behavior. Separate algorithms are also used to process the moving and still parts of an image, resulting in sharp backgrounds with moving objects that are free from motion artifacts. Sony's Precision Drive III mechanism is also included, which helps maximize the performance of DVD collections by reading data even on some physically "warped" discs. Other benefits include fast/slow playback with sound, and custom parental control.
Sony DVP-NS57P/S Progressive Scan DVD Player Silver Features:
- Precision Drive, 3 System For Flaws in DVD Discs
- Progressive Output (480p)
- Multi Brand TV Remote Control*
- Dolby® Digital Decoding Compatible
- Tunerless
Customer Reviews:
- terrible: I bought this in early January 2008. For the first 3 months it has been fine, but over the last month it has progressed from freezing infrequently to not being able to play any disc at all. Now when I place a disc in the player disc it loads for about 10 minutes and then I get a message that the disc is dirty, even if the disc is brand new and absolutely pristine. It's going directly into the trash bin.
- stops working: We loved this DVD player--while it lasted. It was easy to use and the sound and picture quality were both good. But after three months of fairly light use, when we tried to play anything, we got a message saying "no disc". Nothing we did to fix the problem worked. Sony offered to send us a reburbished model, which would cost $35 plus shipping, which was almost as much as it cost to begin with. Essentially the player and Sony customer support was worthless. But before we just threw the DVD player away, we thought we'd try it one more time. This time the message kept saying "cannot play disc." The tray that holds the disc is plastic and feels flimsy, which is probably the problem. So after such a short time will have to buy a new DVD player. It certainly won't be another SONY.
- Buzzing noise: Purchased this player to replace an old one: after inserting a DVD and the image appeared, wherever there is high contrast there is an accompanying buzzing noise that cannot be eliminated. When the picture contrast is 'medium' or moderate, the buzz is not so apparent. I won't bother to return it because that would be more trouble than it is worth but will think twice when purchasing a second one for one of my other television locations.
- it works!: yeah, i had a toshiba for a bit, it died horribly. it wouldn't sync the voice and the video. this player works perfectly. it is awsome! BUY IT!!! unless you want upconverting or blu-ray or multiple disks...
