Customer Reviews:
- Sony Blu-ray Player: The product is excellent and meet with my expectations, the supplier also got solve all the issues with the dispatch and I'm really satisfied.
- Sony BDPS300 - Excellent Blu-ray Player!: I own 2 of these Blu-ray players and they work perfectly. I have one hooked to a Sony SXRD rear projection TV and the other to a 40" Sony Bravia. I have had them for almost a year now as I got them when they first came out. I've never had any problems with them and they have played every disc I've put into them except Van Wilder on Blu-ray. After I had updated the firmware to the newest version at the time than even Van Wilder played perfectly. The remote also works great, I just wish that it was backlit. I personally don't care about the profile not being 2.0. I just enjoy the movie and xome extras. The picture in picture never got me going even with my HD-DVD players which have always had that feature along with internet ability. I'm in it for simple HD quality.
I've not had many complaints of load times. The average is about 30 seconds for most films. I have had a few that take several minutes but I don't sweat it much. It just gives some extra time to get something to drink and run to the bathroom before starting! After all, what is a couple of minutes in relation to a 2 hour movie? Not a big deal. I don't understand people that complain about such little things. I own these for the picture quality and it is worth a couple of minutes.
I also own 2 of the Sony BDP-S1 Blu-ray players and they have worked flawlessly also. I have one of those hooked to my 1080p Mits front projector and a Sony 60" rear projector. I just added a Samsung BD-UP5000 Blu-ray/HD-DVD combo player for my wife's 46" Sony Bravia in her sewing room and that is working great also.
I think the real issue with any of these Blu-ray and HD-DVD players is to update the firmware if you are having any issues. I also have 5 HD-DVD players, all Toshiba, HD-A1 (2), HD-XA2 (2), and HD-A3 (1) and they have all worked great also. Don't be afraid to enjoy beautiful HD movies, just update the firmware which is very simple. - Sony BDP-S300: The Sony BDP-S300 is a very nice looking Blue Ray/DVD player. I've had mine for a few days now and have watch enough movies on it to know I got a player that performs. It's remote is very functional and easy to understand and use in the dark as well.
DVDs step up nicely to 1080p, which is a relief!
My BDP-S300 player did not require a firmware upgrade. It had version 3.8 loaded already.
Blue Ray load time isn't long at all. I bought "I am Legend" with Will Smith in Blue Ray format and was blown away by the clarity Blue Ray offers. My monitor is a 46" Samsung Series 5 and the Sony connects to it via a 4ft 1000HD Monster brand HDMI cable for 1080p.
Be advised; not all cables are the same quality. You'll need a high quality cable for the best results. Be sure and get one that handles both audio and video at 10.2Gbps ! A 1000HD!!!

- Wait for the BDP-S350: Page 5 of the owner's manual (BDP-S300/301) states, "This player supports BD-ROM Profile 1 only. Playback of later versions and BDs other than BD-ROM is not guaranteed. Since the Blu-ray Disc specifications are new and evolving, some discs may not play depending on the disc type and the version...."
If you don't care to watch the extras that profile 1.1 and 2.0 provide, it doesn't matter, as you may not be able to watch the disc at all, i.e. I, Robot. I have latest firmware as of this posting, 3.80.
Key features of the Sony BDP-S350 that is scheduled to come out summer 2008:
Supports BonusView, which means it is Profile 1.1 compliant
BD-Live ready, which means it can gain BD-Live capability with a firmware update
Ethernet port for firmware upgrades
Supports 1080p output at both 24 and 60 frames per second
Onboard decoding for Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby TrueHD
Bitstream output for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio

Update: I recently upgraded to the newly released firmware 3.90 and have to say, I, Robot now works perfectly. Good job Sony. However, considering the BDP-S350 is coming out in a couple of months and will cost about the same as the S-300, wait.
- Works well with my bravia TV: This Blu-ray disc player integrated very well with my Bravia LCD flat screen TV. The picture is impressive and terrific. The controls easy to operate.
This is new technology, therefore apply the firmware upgrades and you will be pleased. Instead of being unhappy that I have to do upgrades, I accept that reality as part of being an 'early adopter" of the technology.
