Customer Reviews:

  • Great as usual: This is another fine example of why I always recommend Pioneer DVD Players to others. I have tried dozens of DVD players in the past and none of them EVER measure up to the Pioneers. This like other Pioneer players has great features like: Quick loading. It remembers the position of your last 20 or 30 DVDs you played. It playes just about any type of file from MP3's, WMV's to MPEG's and AVI's with DivX. This particular player has a USB port in the front which you can use to slideshow photo's or play movies.
The downside: I was disappointed to find out it didn't have a digital optical output port. Unfortunately my receiver does not have HDMI inputs, so I ended up using the Digital Coax
  • An excellent player, but somewhat overrated.: From the reviews around the net, you'd think this player would walk your dog and do your dishes. But, sorry to say, nothing's that good; and certainly not for $70.

Admittedly, I am impressed with the player. Build quality seems to be pretty good. The player is quite quiet compared to others. And the on-screen menu system is also fantastic.

But... Pioneer seems to have gone out of their way to make unlocking the region coding for this player harder than it needs to be. And for some people, that is a pretty big ding.

If you're buying this player for basic use, it'll do you proud. But if you're looking for something that will play anything and everything from anywhere, you may want to look elsewhere.
  • Regular dvd player: Easy enough to work dvd player. Had to fiddle around with the menu to set it to 1080p (does not start as default). Upconverting does improve signal slightly, but its not that amazing. It seems to depend on age of dvd its upconverting (ie old movies still don't get the crystal clear/sharp signals of new cgi type movies)
  • Awesome picture: Bought this DVD player before Blu-ray won out. It gives a great upscaled 1080p picture using all my old standard DVDs. The DIVx player and picture viewer are nice side features as well.
  • should have read more: Only problem I have with this upconverting DVD is that it does not have as optical output. Had to change my wiring setup for my home theater to accomodate. Better than the Samsung unit I am replacing. Will probably get more units for the other rooms that dont have surround.
