Customer Reviews:
- Better than I expected: I almost decided not to buy this unit based on many negative reviews regarding load-time and poor performance. I am glad I didn't listen. At first I thought this unit was a problem because I didn't get 1080P from Blu-rays, and I didn't get any upconversion on regular DVD's. I had bought low cost HDMI cables and couldn't believe they would make a difference since, as others have said, digital is digital - all or nothing. Then before giving up on the unit I went to Target and paid $39 for a brand name cable and to my surprise the unit worked flawlessly. It also upconverts my regular DVDs to 1080P - which is not documented or advertised in the documentation. I have had none of the issues I read about since purchasing a good HDMI cable - but sorry Amazon, most of the HDMI cables on your site don't work at max resolution (and I tried several of them from you and various other suppliers you partner with).
- Great when it works but frustrating when it doesn't: I love the blu-ray and upscaled pictures this player shows but the player takes FOREVER to load discs and I've had problems with it.
The biggest problem is that movies will lose sync with the audio. The picture will play ahead of the sound and I have to pause, rewind, pause, and then play for it to work. I don't know if my particular unit is defective or if this is just a problem with this player. This happens on both blu-ray and standard DVD discs.
Also, I can't get the network firmware upgrade to work and there is nothing in the manual to help me attach it to the network. The firmware by CD method worked (I think) but the process that Samsung says on its website to follow doesn't work.
This player looks cool and displays a great picture when it does work but overall I've been frustrated with this player. - Has everything you need in a bluray player, but features some annoyances: Get ready for pure HD heaven. Has everything you need in a Bluray Player. Displays beautiful picture, creates great sound and has great features, however Samsung needs to work on the loading times and button response times. Bluray movies can take up to a minute or more to load. Another annoyance is the eject button on the player may take 5 to 10 seconds to respond once pressed. Samsung makes great products, but has been known for these issues in the past. I hope they get it right one day. To Samsung's credit, the remote controller is a lot more responsive than past players I've owned. I would recommend if the annoyances don't bother you.
- Blu-ray: Easy to set up and use. Different from DVD players. We enjoy watching the Blu-rays.
- Clear picture and great sound. : I just got this unit today in the mail. I must admit, it is a okay unit. First thing I did was update the firmware, I downloaded from the Samsung website. Update the firmware was very simple. I am kinda computer wiz so making a DVD from ISO file was simple task for me.
I was able to play many DVD that I had already and it does project it very nicely on my new Samsung Ln46A550p TV (1080p). Very clear picture and very nice sound. Blu-Ray movie displays crystal clear.
As I searching for DVD to play, I had some problem with some DVDs. I was able to play about 75% DVD I already had. Some DVDs just does not get recognized by this player. When I put a DVD, it just saids "no disk", Not sure why.
Overall, I am content with this unit. I got it used for $250, so I cannot complain either. I got another $50 refund from the seller, due to seller's misrepresentation of the product. (So total purchase price I spend on purchasing this unit is $200 + shipping/handling) Also, I figured instead of spending $100 or so on upconvert DVD player to work with my new TV, I decided to go directly to Blu-Ray, since the Blu-Ray is now standard of HD DVDs.
Update: I am still checking all DVDs as to which one plays. I got another message "This disk cannot be played" I have no idea why some DVDs works and other does not.
So far I was able to play all Blu-Ray DVDs, I cannot complain.
Another great thing is that my TV (LN46A550P) and my Blu-Ray player (BD-P1400) communicate to each other using Anyway+, which is feature that will put TV on automatically and switch the source to Blu-Ray when I turn on the Blu-Ray player to play. And vice versa, if I switch TV input to Blu-Ray player, the Blu-Ray player automatically comes on.
