Product Description: Ichiro is a latch-key kid in the late 1960s Japan, a country drowning in urban blight and big, nasty bullies. He escapes his dreary life by dreaming of Monster Island, a fantasy world where Godzilla rules and Ichiro is befriended by Godzill'a son, Minilla, who's experiencing his own troubles with a bull monster, Gabara. When Ichiro is kidnapped by crooks, the lessons learned from his monster pals help him stand up for himself and fight back.Amazon.com: This 2001 Godzilla feature from Japan's Toho Studios, released as part of the mighty monster's 50th anniversary, is a visually impressive and action-packed entry in the long-running franchise, but also one with a fast and loose re-interpretation of its history that may displease some stalwart fans. Writer-director Shusuke Kaneko (who previously revitalized the Gamera series) erases everything that occurred after 1954's Godzilla and re-imagines the beast as a mythical creature harboring the souls of the Japanese victims of World War II; its attack is challenged by three "Guardian Monsters": Mothra, perennial villain King Ghidorah (here reinvented as hero) and B-list player Baragon (from Frankenstein Challenges the World). The retooling, while imaginative, is supported by spectacular special effects, but the monsters' brawls (a core reason for enjoying these films) seem abbreviated, and Kaneko's script experiences awkward seismic shifts from comedy to grim drama that may befuddle longtime G-fans. Columbia-Tri-Star's DVD is widescreen and offers Dolby Digital 5.1 sound and a Japanese language track (with English subtitles) that should please viewers with an aversion to dubbing. Trailers for other Sony/Columbia sci-fi titles like the American Godzilla feature are also included. --Paul Gaita

Customer Reviews:

  • Godzilla regurgitated: Its funny but when most Godzilla fans remember this one they usually frown or laugh. I personally laugh. I have memories of watching this as a kid on saturday mornings. I must say that the film IS the worst Godzilla movie and sadly the battles are mostly scenes from other Godzilla films!!! They just filmed some new scenes with Ichiro, Gabara and Minya due to the low(er) budget this time around.

This film still has a special place in my heart even as horribly goofy as it is. I really liked Gabara and he is actually a pretty cool monster and its too bad they didn't use him more in other Godzilla films. Minya talking is odd but it gives the film a cartoony feel. Godzilla himself changes his look quite often throughout the film (due to the mixed footage they threw in on the cheap) lol.

In the end it is still a Godzilla film and part of the franchise and I love it. (Just not enough to give it higher than 3 stars)

The US version (Godzilla's Revenge) looks the best it ever has honestly!
  • Worse then the American godzilla movie: Wow was this movie bad. For one the effects ranged from not bad with a few of the long shots to terrible with others. Secondly the same lame audio track kept playing through the film. Godzilla himself didn't look right which is why they didn't use this suit again, he looks more like a snake (his face I mean) and I really hated those eyes with no pupils.

Really the movie just felt cheap, like a bad made of TV movie in the Sci Fi Channel. The millennium series is great with one huge exception, this movie.
  • False Information: This is just a warning Amazon has messed up the product info the picture and Title of the movie are incorrect. The picture and title referenced is Godzilla All Monsters Attack which is also known as Godzilla's Revenge from the 1970's. However the reviews and the descriptions of the movie are for Godzilla,Mothra,King Ghidorah Giant All Out Monsters Attack which is a 2001 movie. I would be leary of purchasing this because it could be either version you might buy it and get Godzilla's Revenge like the picture shows or you might get the Giant All Out Monsters Attack which is what the reviews and product are referencing.
  • My son loves it...: My four year old is so in love with Godzilla. He fell in love with this creature about a year ago. We currently live in Japan so finding toys over here are easy and great, but all the movies are in Japanese, and this was a good one.
  • GMK : When I first read the reviews for GMK I was expecting it to be more like the recent Gamera movies that came before this, because it was directed by the same person, but it's totally different.

This is probably the serious Godzilla of the millenium series and is the only Godzilla movie to feature King Ghidorah as a good guy.

There really is nothing to say but watching this movie was great. The kaiju battles are good, the main characters are interesting, and the effects were good.
