Customer Reviews:
- For those Elves about to RAWK....we salute you!!!!!: From the day following Halloween until Christmas Day we are inundated with Christmas music and Muzak. Well if you are like me...WE'RE NOT GONNA TAKE IT ANYMORE! Thanks to Bob Kulick, we don't have to take it anymore!
Turn your stereo/i-pod up to 11 and blow away your friends and neighbors with Christmas classics reimagined and ROCKED OUT! Bob Kulick bring rock/metal icons together for 12 scorching tracks. A MUST HAVE for any rock and roll fan! - Better not pout: There's nothing sweet, sentimental or ring-a-ding-ding when Lemmy Kilmister, Ronnie James Dio, Chuck Billy, Tony Iommi and other metal and hard rock luminaries put their mark on traditional Christmas music.
Instead there are growls, shrieks, creepy crooning, sonic chords, screaming guitars and emphatic pa-rum-pum-pum-pahs. Jingle a bell and you've got We Wish You a Metal Christmas and a Headbanging New Year.
In a metal Christmas world, Alice Cooper's ghoulish "Santa Claws is Coming to Town" makes you want to hide under the bed. When Santa visits Alice, he breaks the toys and burns down the toyland town.
"Silent Night" becomes downright unholy when growled menacingly by Testament's Chuck Billy. Vocal giant Ronnie James Dio imbues "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" with a dark power that's magnified by the melancholy chords of longtime collaborator and guitarist Tommy Iommi.
While most songs fare well with metal's drama and drive, it can't save "Little Drummer Boy" from tedium (perhaps nothing can) although dUg Pinnick of King's X attempts to infuse the monotonous lyrics with emotion. But, face it, pa-rum-pah-pah-pum simply isn't metal. Perhaps if growled ...
Motorhead's Lemmy Kilmister shouts with enthusiasm on "Run, Rudolph, Run," but his distinctive gravelly voice somehow comes off gargly. Tim "Ripper' Owens yowls a rousing version of "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" while Styx's Tommy Shaw wails John Lennon's "Happy Xmas (War is Over)" with more grit and funk than the original.
Also getting a metal makeover are "Silver Bells," "Deck the Halls," "Grandma Got Ran Over by a Reindeer," and "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree."
This album is fun for diehard metal fans, but it's not something you want to play every day through the holidays. - Santa Claws is Coming: I honestly didn't know what to expect when I saw this CD. A friend of mine told me about it, and wanted it for Christmas. I thought it might be crap, but since it is inexpensive at amazon, I went ahead and picked up 2.
Wow, this CD rocks! It is my new favorite cd. I have listened to it close to 23 times now (according to itunes), so by now the novelty has worn off. It still rules. I love breaking this cd out, cause no-one knows about it.
Here are my favorite picks.
2 - Run Rudolph Run w/ Lemmy Kilmister 4 stars
3 - Santa Claws w/ Alice Cooper 4 stars (so awesome!)
4 - God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen w/ Dio 4 stars (again, totally sick!)
5 - Silver Bells w/ Geoff Tate (listening to this now) 4 stars.
6 - Little Drummer Boy w/ Dug Pinnick is 3 stars
7 - Santa Claus is Back In Town w/ Tip Ripper Owens 4 stars
9 - Deck The Halls w/ Oni Logan 4 stars
10 - Grandma Got Ran Over By A Reindeer w/ Stephen Pearcy 4 stars
11 - Rockin' Around The Xmas Tree w/ Joe Lynn Turner - 5 stars!
The other songs are not really worth mentioning. Silent Night is terrible, We Wish You a Marry Xmas is ok, but a 1-2 star, Happy Xmas is a slower song, but has some cool guitar work, i give it a 2-3 star rating. I skip It when it comes on, but sometimes listen to it.
If you are a guitarist, you have to buy this CD. It is that good.
I love this cd, and after this year, I will surely be looking forward to listening to it again next year. I'm so glad I bought this, go ahead and get it yourself, you will love it. If your buying it as a gift, if that person is a guitarist, get it for em, they will definitely love it. - This is a Farce!!: Last year, they put out the Hair Band Christmas CD, but this is unacceptable. This goes against all that metal stands for. Christmas music is suppose to be peaceful and serene. You can't mix that with Lemmy, Ripper and Dio. For future purposes: STOP MAKING METAL CHRISTMAS CD'S!!!!
- Bob Kulick: Bob Kulick did this album in his studio, and he really is a pro at what he does as are all of the musicians that took part in it!
It's rare that we can buy an album that we actually love every song, but I have my copy and I love it.
I also love it even more when musicians step up to the plate to help a good cause: This is the case here.
Love all of you...
